Chili-ing with PJ ! ! !

Tonight I will be spinning a few records starting at 8:30 pm.
We will start with Charlie Rich’s Best of the Sun year. These are recordings of Charlie when he was recording at Sam Philips legendary Sun Studios. I believe most of these recordings are from the 60’s, stripped down with simple instrumentation, studio recordings that showcase Charlie’s songwriting, singing and piano playing.
Next up is Gene Ammons with Benny Green, Tommy Flanagan Frank Foster and others. The LP is called “Juggin” Around”. This is swinging improvisational jazz from the 70’s. Its certainly not smooth jazz and there is plenty of improvisation but its not harsh or discordant just swingin good jazz.
The Stooges first LP is up next! With 1969, I Wanna Be Your Dog, Real Cool Time and a bunch of other good tunes this is an absolutely legendary record. Iggy looks so young on the cover, you might not even recognize him!
And we are going to finish up with Bohannon’s Stop and Go! This Dakar release from 1972 is one of the funkiest records that you have never heard! With Wah wah Watson and Ray Parker on guitar along with Detroit’s Leroy Emmanuel and a host of others , this LP is just a killer item!
If we have more time, we may pick another LP or two but you will enhance your musical education if you come to our listening party tonight. All of these LPs are for sale at PJ’s Basement Record store. I’m looking forward to it and I hope you’ll be there too. The chili is cooking and smelling good! See you tonight!
